Cold vs. Flu: What’s the difference?

FLU:

  • Symptoms arise suddenly, and are more intense
  • Fever ranging from 102-106 degrees
  • Chills
  • Muscle aches
  • Exhaustion
  • Flushed face
  • Headaches
  • Vomiting or diarrhea may occur
  • Symptoms appear within 2-3 days of exposure and may last from 1 day-1 week

 

COLD:

  • Symptoms are centered around the nose (runny, sneezing, stuffy)
  • Possible throat irritation
  • Adults generally have no fever
  • Younger children may experience fever ranging from 100-102
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Burning eyes
  • Muscle aches
  • Decreased appetite
  • On average, symptoms appear within 1-5 days and last for a week
