ATX Gluten-Free News: September 2010
Welcome to another addition of ATX Gluten-Free News. Lately I have spent most of my time in the kitchen, but with Austin Restaurant Week approaching, I hope to get out and try some delicious new restaurants. Make sure and stop by Wednesday for the next Austin gluten-free blogger in my new blog series.
La Sombra: There has been lots of buzz surrounding this hip restaurant, for good reason. La Sombra dishes up some of the best flavored food in town, and many of their menu items are naturally gluten-free or may be modified.
Austin Restaurant Week: Last week I wrote a blog post that listed all the restaurants that will be participating as “gluten-free friendly” in ARW. Make sure to stop by and check it out.
Whole Gang Guest Post: I participated in a guest post on The Whole Gang a couple of weeks ago for her series called 30 days to a Food Revolution. I made a green tomato tower with spicy yogurt sauce. Perfect for entertaining!

Jason’s Deli: Don’t forget that Jason’s Delis across the country are now serving Udi’s gluten-free breads for sandwiches. The bread appears to be larger than the regular Udi’s packaged breads you find in grocery stores. Don’t panic, it is still Udi’s gluten-free bread. Always smart to double check though.
Maggiano’s and Chili’s: Both gluten-free friendly restaurants. Chili’s has a gluten-free menu. Maggiano’s serves up gluten-free dishes upon request. They are both offering a limited time bonus for signing up for their e-mail lists (that sends out special offers regularly). The bonus is $5 off two entrees at Chili’s and $10 off any visit to Maggiano’s. Sign up for the e-mail list here to receive the new bonus. Throughout September, which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, for every new Chili’s e-mail club sign up, the brand will donate $1 to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Confituras: A new local company started by The Cosmic Cowgirl. She specializes in making small batch, locally sourced jams, preserves and jellies. Find her products at the Barton Creek Farmer’s Market every Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Stephanie’s products are naturally gluten-free, but make sure to double-check with her, since products change often. I purchased the Cardamom Apple Butter last week and finished the jar within 3 days. It truly is a delicious product.
